Illustration Friday – Linked (Within You Without You – #23)

We were talking
About the space between us all
And the people
Who hide themselves behind a wall
Of illusion
Never glimpse the truth
Then it’s far too late
When they pass away

We were talking
About the love we all could share
When we find it
To try our best to hold it there
With our love, with our love
We could save the world, if they only knew

Try to realize it’s all within yourself
No one else can make you change
And to see you’re really only very small
And life flows on within you and without you

We were talking
About the love that’s gone so cold
And the people
Who gain the world and lose their soul
They don’t know
They can’t see
Are you one of them

When you’ve seen beyond yourself
Then you may find, peace of mind is waiting there
And the time will come when you see we’re all one
And life flows on within you and without you

This week’s Illustration Friday topic is Linked. I chose The Beatles song Within You Without You to illustrate the topic. That’s number three from Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band…I’m on a roll with this one!

I think this piece works well with “linked,” as I think the song kind of talks about the connections we all share. If you’ve seen any of the Star Wars movies, they talk about the Force, and in one of the movies they explain it as “Midi-chlorians (also spelled “midi-clorians” or “midichlorians”) are a microorganism in the fictional Star Wars galaxy, first mentioned in The Phantom Menace. They are microscopic life-forms that reside within the cells of all living things and communicate with the Force. They are symbionts with all other living things and without them life could not exist.”

The lyrics kind of remind of me of this in a way.

It’s a very deep song, no doubt influenced by various narcotics and Buddhism. This song has always reminded me of Alice In Wonderland for some reason – probably because it sounds very trippy. I think of the “hookah smoking caterpillar” when I hear it, and thus the imagery I used.
